Chapter 39
Web pages
On this page
The room module Web pages (German UI: Webseiten) keeps a list of external web pages for a room – a team dashboard, the project wiki, a ticket board of another tool. The pages open right inside the room, so nobody has to switch to the browser.
Switching the module on#
In the room settings under Content, switch on Web pages. The room gets the tab Web pages.
Opening a page#
The tab shows the pages as cards with icon, name, address and description. Click a card to open the page in the room. The toolbar above the page offers:
- Back to list (Zur Liste),
- Reload (Neu laden),
- Fullscreen (Vollbild) – the page fills the whole screen; press Esc to leave,
- Open in browser (Im Browser öffnen),
- Copy link (Link kopieren) – copies the page's address.
Coviqo remembers the last page you opened in a room and shows it again the next time you open the tab. Back to list forgets it.
Cards can carry these labels:
- Opens in the browser (Öffnet im Browser) – the page was set up to open outside of Coviqo; a click opens it in a new browser tab.
- No embedding (Keine Einbettung) – the site does not allow being shown inside other applications.
- Blocked (Blockiert) – an organisation policy does not allow this page (see below).
Pages that do not allow embedding#
Many sites (for example banking, some sign-in pages or large web services) forbid being shown inside other applications. Coviqo checks this when a page is added and again once a day. In the browser, such a page shows the notice This page does not allow embedding (Diese Seite erlaubt keine Einbettung) with the button Open in browser. Check again (Erneut prüfen) repeats the check, for example after the site changed its settings.
If a page stays empty although no notice is shown, use Open in browser below the page.
Web pages in the desktop app#
The Coviqo desktop app shows pages that do not allow embedding in its own app view inside the room – no notice, no browser needed. The app view adds Back / Forward and Window fullscreen (Fenster-Vollbild) to the toolbar. With Open every page in the app view (Alle Seiten in der App-Ansicht öffnen) above the cards, all pages use the app view on this computer.
- Sign-ins in the app view are kept per space and are separate from your Coviqo sign-in.
- Links that open a new window open in your browser. Downloads ask where to save the file.
- Camera, microphone, location and notifications are not available to pages in the app view.
- While a dialog or menu of Coviqo is open, the app view is hidden for a moment.
Managing pages#
People with the permission Manage web pages (Webseiten verwalten – moderators and managers by default) see Add page (Seite hinzufügen) and, on each card, buttons to move, edit and remove the page.
A page has
- an address – only
https://addresses; addresses with a user name, password or token are refused, and so are addresses of Coviqo itself (the app, Control, office documents), - a name and an optional description,
- an optional icon – one emoji; without it Coviqo shows the site's own icon,
- Open: In the room or Always in the browser.
Adding or removing a page shows up for everybody in the room immediately and is recorded in the activity log. Web pages are not available in end-to-end encrypted rooms.
Organisation policy#
Organisations can decide which web pages their members and their spaces may use (Organisation → Policies → Web pages in rooms):
- Allowed – any https page,
- Approved domains only – only pages of listed domains (
example.comfor exactly this address,*.example.comfor example.com and all its sub domains), - Off – no web pages.
Pages outside the policy are shown as Blocked with the reason and cannot be opened; in the desktop app, links to other domains are not followed.
Privacy#
To check whether a page may be embedded and to find its icon, the Coviqo server requests the page once (without your cookies). Icons are loaded through Coviqo's image proxy, so the site does not see who looks at the list. The page itself is loaded by your browser or the desktop app like any other website.
