Chapter 62
Accessibility
On this page
Coviqo is built to be usable with the keyboard, with screen readers and with the display settings of your operating system. The public Accessibility statement (link Accessibility in the website footer, /legal/accessibility) lists what already works, what does not work fully yet and how to report a barrier.
Keyboard#
- Press Tab once after a page has loaded: the first stop is Skip to main content, which jumps past the top bar and the sidebar straight to the content.
- Every button, link and field shows a clearly visible focus frame. Dialogs, menus and side sheets keep the focus inside until you close them with Esc.
- In the tab row of a room, Tab lands on the active tab; the arrow keys, Home and End move between the tabs, and Enter or Space opens the selected tab. Screen readers announce the tabs and the panel they control.
- In a chat room, the message list itself can be focused with Tab and scrolled with the arrow keys; Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) opens the command palette. All shortcuts are listed under Settings → Intercom & shortcuts.
Screen readers#
- Pages have landmarks (navigation, main content) and headings, and all icon buttons have a name.
- Form errors are read out when they appear and are linked to the field they belong to. Buttons such as Sign in or Create space stay clickable: if a required field is empty, the error appears right under the field instead of the button being greyed out.
- Optional fields say so in their label, for example Description (optional); fields without that note are required.
- New chat messages from others are announced while the room is open – short, with the sender's name. When many messages arrive at once you hear "3 new messages" instead of every single one. Older messages that load while you scroll up are never read out.
- Calls and voice rooms announce when you are connected, when the connection is lost or restored, when people join or leave (several changes are summarised) and when a recording starts or is already running. Who is currently speaking is not announced.
Display#
- Both the dark and the light theme (Settings → Appearance) meet a contrast of at least 4.5:1 for text. Colours chosen by communities for roles and teams are automatically darkened or lightened in names where they would otherwise be hard to read.
- If Reduce motion is switched on in your operating system, Coviqo shows no animations.
- Pages adapt to zoom levels up to 200 % and to narrow windows without horizontal scrolling.
Known limitations#
Live captions are only available in meetings with AI transcription, the whiteboard cannot be fully used with a keyboard or screen reader, and some drag-and-drop actions have no keyboard alternative yet. The accessibility statement keeps the current list. Please report barriers by e-mail to the contact address given in the statement and in the imprint (subject "Accessibility").
