Chapter 4
Identities and worlds
On this page
One account, a separate identity in every space. At work you are "Dennis Albert – IT administrator", in your gaming community "Senseo" with a different picture. Other spaces never see the identity you use somewhere else.
Your identity in a space#
Open Settings › Profile › Identities & worlds and click Edit identity next to a space. In My profile in this space you can set:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Space avatar | A picture only for this space. Upload and crop it like your profile picture. Empty = your profile picture. |
| Display name | The name members of this space see. Empty = your account name. |
| Pronouns | Shown with your name in this space, for example "she/her". |
| Status in this space | A short status only for this space. Empty = the status of your world, else your account status. |
| Title and Bio | What this space should know about you. |
| World | Which world this space belongs to (see below). |
Your name, picture, pronouns and status appear everywhere in the space: member list, chat, mentions, voice and meeting tiles, tasks, notifications and search.
Good to know. Your username (@handle) is the same everywhere – mentions use it. Somebody who is in two spaces with you could still recognise you. Space identities separate how you appear; they do not make you anonymous.
Real names in company spaces#
Space owners and admins choose under Space settings › Overview › Display names:
- Free – members may use a name of their own (default for communities).
- Real name required – everybody appears with their account name (default for company spaces). Picture, pronouns and status can still be set per space.
If your organisation manages your account, it can switch on Global identity only: you then appear with your organisation profile in every space, and your own names and pictures per space are switched off.
Who sees the name behind a nickname#
People with a space name show a small Nickname marker for the space's owners, administrators and member managers.
- In company spaces owners and admins also see the account name behind it.
- In communities nobody in the space sees it – not even the owner.
- Coviqo's trust & safety team can see it when handling abuse reports.
When you click on somebody who uses a nickname, the profile card shows only their identity in this space – no link to their account profile.
Direct messages#
Direct messages show the account profile. If the other person uses a nickname in a space you share, the conversation header says for example "in Gaming Guild as Senseo".
Worlds#
Every space belongs to a world. There are two to start with – Work (company spaces) and Leisure (communities) – and you can add your own, for example "Club". Change a space's world in the list or in My profile in this space.
For each world you can set:
- Notification hours – switch them on and add time windows (day, from, to) in your time zone, for example Monday–Friday 08:00–18:00. Windows can run past midnight.
- Status in this world – for example "At the office" or "Off work"; it shows in every space of the world without a status of its own.
The quick switch at the top – Only Work, Only Leisure, Everything – makes the other worlds quiet.
Quiet means: notifications from the spaces of that world arrive without push and without e-mail and do not pop up on your desktop. You find them in the Notifications page. Security, billing and system messages and direct messages always reach you. Notification hours start switched off, so nothing changes until you turn them on.
After joining a community#
When you join a space with free names, Coviqo asks "Would you like a different name or picture here?". Customise opens your profile in this space.
