AFK in voice rooms

Somebody joins a voice room, mutes themselves and walks away – and the room shows them as present for hours. With AFK detection a space moves people who stay muted or deafened for a while into an AFK room, or disconnects them. Before that they get a warning and can answer I'm here.
Setting it up#
You need the permission Manage space. Open Space settings › Voice & media › AFK:

| AFK room | The voice room inactive people are moved into. Nobody can speak there – it is for listening only. |
| Action | Move into the AFK room or Disconnect. People who may not join the AFK room are disconnected instead. |
| Inactive after (minutes) | 1 to 240 minutes, 15 by default. |
| Warning before (seconds) | How long before the move the warning comes – 0 to 300 seconds, 60 by default (0 = no warning). |
| Counts as inactive | Muted or deafened (recommended) or additionally silent: people with an open microphone who have not said anything. |
| Rooms without AFK detection | Nobody is moved out of these rooms – e.g. a "Listening only" or music room. |
Click Save. The AFK room gets an AFK badge in the navigation.
Who is never moved#
- People with the permission Exempt from AFK (give it to a role under Space settings › Roles). Administrators and the owner are always exempt; moderators are not exempt automatically.
- People with the camera or a screen share on.
- Listeners: the audience of a stage, listeners in a moderated room and people who may not speak in the room.
- Meetings, direct calls, bots, the rooms on the exclusion list and the AFK room itself.
A mute by a moderator alone does not count as inactive – only your own mute or switching the sound off.
The warning#
When the time is nearly up, a notice Are you still there? counts down the seconds. Click I'm here – the timer starts again. Unmuting, switching the sound back on, starting the camera or a screen share does the same.
If you do nothing, Coviqo moves you into the AFK room (Moved to … for inactivity). You keep listening there; join another room when you are back. Without an AFK room – or if you may not join it – you are disconnected from the voice room (You were disconnected from the voice room for inactivity).
