Chapter 56

Game overlay

On this page

The game overlay shows the most important things of your call on top of your game: who is speaking, whether you are muted, your intercom channel, incoming calls and – in red – whether the call is being recorded (REC) or streamed live (LIVE). It is part of the Coviqo desktop app for Windows (version 0.4 or newer) and free on every plan.

Switching it on#

Settings → Desktop app → Game overlay (German UI: Spiel-Overlay) → Show game overlay. The overlay then appears while you are in a voice room, meeting or call. Clicks and keys still go to your game – the overlay never catches them.

Options:

  • Style: Compact (your status, the room and only the people speaking right now), List (everybody, the speaking ones with a green ring) or Avatars only.
  • Position: a corner of your main screen, or Move to drag it anywhere (then Own position). While moving, the overlay shows buttons for the four corners and Done (or press Esc).
  • Size and Opacity.
  • Only while in voice (on by default): hidden when you are not connected; incoming calls and notifications still show up briefly.
  • Notifications in the overlay: short toasts for new notifications – and Clip saved when you save a game clip (Windows hides its own notifications while you play; see Game clips).
  • Hide names in streamer mode (on by default): while the streamer mode is active, the overlay shows Person 1, 2 … instead of names and no profile pictures.

Hotkeys: under Settings → Intercom & shortcuts you can set a key to show / hide the game overlay and one to move it – both are unbound until you set them.

Tip

The overlay works over games in borderless or windowed fullscreen. Games in exclusive fullscreen draw over every window – switch the game's display mode to borderless to see the overlay. The overlay never appears in your screen shares or recordings.

Note

Desktop app 1.0.10 to 1.0.12 could not show the overlay (it stayed invisible, also in Move). Update to 1.0.13 or newer.

Privacy#

The overlay only shows what the Coviqo app shows anyway. Its data stays on your computer, and its settings are stored by the desktop app on this device only.
