Live streaming, drawing on shared screens, presentation mode and interpretation

Streaming a meeting live#

Meetings, webinars and stage rooms can be streamed live to YouTube, Twitch or your own RTMP server (German UI: Live-Stream). Available from Business; Community Pro spaces can get it from the platform operator.

Starting (hosts): in a meeting open More (the "…" button) › Live stream …; on a stage click the broadcast button at the top right of the conversation card. Choose

  • a saved destination of the space (Space settings › Voice & media › Audio & video › Live-Stream-Ziele, managed by space administrators – the key is never shown again), or
  • YouTube / Twitch / own RTMP server – enter a key: paste the stream key from YouTube Studio or the Twitch dashboard (own servers also need the rtmp:// or rtmps:// address). The key is stored encrypted for this stream only and deleted when it ends.

Pick the layout (Speaker, Grid, Presentation – the shared screen large) and the resolution (1080p from Business), then Go live. Everybody in the call sees "Going live in 10 s" first – whoever does not want to be seen can turn the camera off – and then a red LIVE badge. People who join later are told before they join. End stream in the same dialog stops it; it also ends with the call. If the platform refuses the stream (wrong key, stream not set up), hosts see Stream aborted with the reason.

Organizers can announce a stream in advance (when scheduling: More options › Broadcast & languages, or in the call settings › Announce live broadcast): the join screen then says the meeting will be streamed. Live streaming is not available in end-to-end encrypted rooms.

Drawing on a shared screen#

On a screen share you can draw together (from Community Pro): open the pencil at the bottom left of the shared screen, then choose pen, highlighter, arrow, rectangle, laser pointer or text. Everybody draws in their own colour; drawings fade after a few seconds unless the person sharing chooses Keep drawings. Ctrl+Z undoes your last stroke; the eraser menu has Clear my drawings and – for the sharer and hosts – Clear all, plus Download image with drawings and Send image with drawings to the chat.

Who may draw is decided by the person sharing: by default hosts (in direct calls everybody) plus people who Ask to draw and are allowed; alternatively Everybody in the call or Nobody but me. Drawings are exchanged only between the devices in the call and never stored. Not available in end-to-end encrypted rooms.

Presentation mode#

With presentation mode your camera appears inside your screen share – like a TV presenter (from Community Pro). Open the small menu next to the share button › Presentation mode › Camera over the screen. You can remove the background (your device cuts you out; weaker devices get a round crop), choose the corner and the size, and drag the camera into another corner on your own share tile. Recordings and live streams show it the same way.

Interpretation#

In meetings and webinars with interpretation (from Business) you choose your language with the language button at the bottom left: Original or one of the languages. With a language the original speaker stays audible, quieter in the background.

Organizers can add the languages when scheduling (More options › Broadcast & languages) and set everything up in the call settings › Interpretation: add languages, assign interpreters for each language (people from the meeting or an e-mail address) and decide whether the languages are recorded as extra audio files (off by default: only the original is recorded). Captions and transcripts stay with the original.

Interpreters get a console: choose From (the original, or another language as relay) and Into, then Interpret into …. Your meeting microphone is muted while you interpret. The badge shows ON AIR or Ready; with a booth partner use Hand over to … or Take over. Mute original silences the original for you.

Listening translated (machine interpretation)#

In meetings of plans with machine interpretation (from Business) the language button also offers Listen translated: pick e.g. French (machine) and you hear the other speakers translated into French by a computer voice – about two to three seconds after they finish a sentence, with the original quietly underneath. It works while the meeting's transcription is running (it uses the same captions) and never in end-to-end encrypted rooms. In a language with human interpreters the machine only speaks while nobody is interpreting – a person always has priority.

  • The menu says "Machine translation – may contain errors"; the button shows a small robot while the machine is speaking, and the tile of the person being translated shows Translated (French).
  • Original in the background in the same menu sets how loud the original stays: −6, −15 (default), −25 dB or off – remembered on this device.
  • If the translation is busy you see a hint – the captions keep running.
  • The voices are neutral – nobody's own voice is imitated. People who objected to the transcription are not translated.
  • Organizers can switch it off for a meeting: call settings › Interpretation › Allow machine interpretation. The synthesised speech is only recorded when Record languages is on (and only for the languages set up for interpreters).
