Chapter 28
Watching together, music and dialling in by phone
Watching a video together#
In voice rooms, sessions (Runden) and meetings you can watch a video together with everybody in the call (German UI: Gemeinsam schauen). Play, pause and jumps happen for everybody at the same time. Available from Community Pro.
Starting: in a voice room click the TV button at the top right of the conversation card; in a meeting open More (the "…" button) › Watch together. Choose
- YouTube / Vimeo – paste a link from youtube.com, youtu.be or vimeo.com, or
- Video of the space – an MP4, WebM or Ogg file from a room you can see. Everybody in the call can play it while the session runs.
Tick Everybody with the permission may control it if others should be able to pause or jump too; otherwise only you and the moderators control the video. If you leave the call, everybody with the permission may take over.
Joining in: the others see a card "Name started watching together" with the title – nothing plays until they click Watch (Zuschauen). YouTube and Vimeo videos are loaded from YouTube / Vimeo; before that Coviqo asks once for your consent (Video von YouTube laden?). With Remember on this device the question is not asked again; you can withdraw it in the player menu (…). If your browser blocks sound, click Tap to play.
While watching: the bar under the video has play / pause, the position, Jump after moving the slider, your own volume (only for you), Picture-in-picture (a small floating window, so you still see the people) and the menu with speed, control mode, Add videos, Stop watching (only for you) and End for everybody (starter and moderators). If you fall behind – slow connection, laptop woke up – the video catches up by itself.
Queue: while a video runs, Add to the queue in the dialog puts more videos behind it – YouTube / Vimeo links, whole YouTube playlists (up to 50 videos) or videos of the space. The queue button in the bar shows how many are waiting and opens the queue: reorder by dragging, remove, shuffle, repeat, and "Recently watched" to add a video again. The next video starts by itself at the end. Who started (and moderators) can skip; everybody else votes – once half of the viewers voted, the next video starts. Adding is open to everybody when "Everybody with the permission controls" is on; each person can have up to 5 videos in the queue (your plan may differ).
Good to know: in a voice room the video keeps playing as a small movable window while you look at other tabs or pages (tasks, chat, other spaces) or scroll the stage away – without reloading or stuttering, it just moves back onto the stage when you return; on the lobby overview it shrinks to the smallest window. YouTube and Vimeo videos always stay visible there – their terms do not allow hidden players. In a meeting the video plays in the meeting view – if you open another page, it stops for you and continues in sync when you come back. A voice room has either a video or music at a time: starting a video ends the music (and the other way round) – only the person who started it or a moderator can do that. Moderators can always control and end it. In rooms with end-to-end encryption this feature is not available.
Music in voice rooms#
In voice rooms and sessions (Runden) you can play music together (German UI: Musik) – YouTube videos and playlists, Vimeo, SoundCloud tracks and sets, or audio files of the space (MP3, AAC, Ogg, Opus, WAV, FLAC). Available from Community Pro; you need the permission Control music (Musik steuern), which members have by default.
Starting: click the music note at the top right of the conversation card, paste a link or pick audio files and click Start. The music starts right away for you. Tick Everybody with the permission may control it if others should be able to pause, skip and sort too. Audio files must be visible to everybody in the call (a file of this room, or one everyone in the call may open) – otherwise Coviqo refuses it or skips it in the queue.
Joining in: the others see a card "Name started music" – nothing plays until they click Listen (Zuhören). YouTube, Vimeo and SoundCloud are loaded only after a one-time consent (Musik von YouTube laden?).
The music bar sits right above the call controls: the player (YouTube and Vimeo show a small video – their terms require a visible player), title, progress, play / pause and next (for those who control it), your own volume, Add tracks, the Queue and the menu. On other pages the bar floats at the bottom right; drag it by its title. In the menu: Quieter while somebody speaks (on by default – the music dips while people talk), repeat, who controls it, Stop listening and End for everybody.
Mini view: while a SoundCloud track or an audio file of the space plays, the button Mini view (one line) (Mini-Ansicht) shrinks the bar to one slim line with the title, play / pause, next (or your skip vote), your volume and Expand. SoundCloud's small player stays visible (SoundCloud requires it); audio files need no player at all. YouTube and Vimeo always show their small video, so the mini view is not offered for them – when the queue reaches a YouTube or Vimeo track the bar opens up again by itself and shrinks back for the next audio track. Your browser remembers the choice.
The queue (Warteschlange) shows what plays now, what comes next and what was played recently. Everybody can add up to 5 tracks at a time (your plan may differ); the person who started and moderators can add more; at most 100 tracks wait in the queue. Controllers drag tracks into a new order, remove tracks, shuffle and repeat one track or the whole queue; everybody can remove their own tracks and add recently played ones again. A YouTube playlist or SoundCloud set is added track by track (up to 50 at once) – the player shows up briefly in the dialog to read the list.
Skipping: if you do not control the music, the next button is a vote (1/2). Once at least half of the people listening voted, the next track starts. Controllers skip directly.
Dialling in to a meeting by phone#
When your organisation's plan includes phone dial-in (Business and Enterprise) and the platform operator has set it up, every meeting shows Dial in by phone (Telefon-Einwahl): one or more phone numbers and an 8-digit meeting PIN. You find them on the meeting page, in the meeting's participant panel and in the invitation e-mail and calendar entry.
To join by phone: call one of the numbers, listen to the announcement, type the PIN and confirm with #. If the meeting has not started yet you hear a short announcement every half minute and are connected as soon as somebody joins in the app (you wait up to 15 minutes). If the meeting is recorded or transcribed, an announcement says so before you are connected. On many phones a click on the number in the invitation dials the PIN automatically.
Others see you as Phone … 123 (only the last three digits of your number). You can only talk and listen – no video, no chat. Three wrong PINs end the call; after several wrong attempts your number is locked for half an hour.
Mute and unmute yourself with *6. Press the star key and then 6 at any time: you hear "Stummgeschaltet" / "You are muted" or "Stummschaltung aufgehoben" / "You are unmuted" (in the language of the number you dialled). If you hear a short low double tone instead, you may not switch your microphone on right now – an organizer muted you, microphones of participants are switched off in this meeting, or you are in a webinar audience without the floor. When a recording starts, you are muted like everybody else; press *6 when you want to speak again – by doing so you agree that your voice is recorded.
For organizers: on the meeting page you can switch phone dial-in off for this meeting and create a New PIN (the old one stops working – invitations already sent still contain it). In the call, the menu of a phone participant offers Mute – this also locks the microphone: the caller cannot unmute with *6 until you choose Allow microphone again (that does not switch it on; the caller does that with *6) – and Hang up. Phone participants count toward the participant limit of the meeting. When the last person using the app leaves, the meeting ends as usual and the phone calls end with it.
