What a lobby does
A lobby is a room type for spontaneous voice rooms. Each short-lived voice room is a session. It lives while people are in it and disappears shortly after the last person has left – after 30 seconds unless your admins change it. Clans use lobbies for squads, clubs for a regulars’ table, companies for a coffee corner or a quick huddle.
In the sidebar a lobby stays one entry, however many sessions run. A green dot and avatars show who is in them; hover over the entry for an overview with a Join button per session.
Starting and running a session
Name and size
Give the session a name (optional) and pick a size: open or 2 to 25 people.
Access
Anyone can join, On request or Invite only. Pick a topic if the lobby offers topics.
Start
Click Start a session. You are connected to its voice right away and become its leader.
The leader can rename the session, invite members, remove someone, hand over the leadership or close the session. When the leader leaves, the person who has been there longest takes over. A session is a normal voice room with screen sharing and, unless the lobby turned it off, chat.
Find players across communities
Find players is a looking-for-group board, but the voice room is right there. Leaders publish their session with game, mode, rank, language, region, platform and whether a microphone is needed. Others filter the list and click Ask to join.
- When the leader accepts, people from outside get a guest pass: this session’s voice and chat for up to 6 hours, nothing else of your community.
- Requests nobody answers expire after 30 minutes.
- Against spam: at most 5 open requests per person and 20 per hour.
- The listing disappears automatically when the session ends.
Settings for admins
- Your own words: call sessions “squads” and the button “Start a squad”.
- Who may start sessions, the default size, a list of topics and how fast empty sessions are deleted.
- Audio and video quality set once for all sessions of the lobby.
- Sessions publicly discoverable is off by default. Only when you switch it on can leaders publish in Find players.
- Mark the community as 18+, so its listings only show to adults who opted in.
How many sessions can run at the same time in a space depends on the plan – see pricing. Sessions do not count as rooms.
Safety
- Report a listing to the community’s moderators and to Coviqo’s Trust & Safety team, or block its leader.
- Raid protection applies: while joins are paused, nobody can publish or be let in.
- The AutoMod word filter also checks session names, topics and listings.
- Sessions cannot be recorded. Their chat and files are deleted with the session.
Frequently asked questions
Do players have to join my community to play with us?
No. When you accept their request in Find players, they get a guest pass for this one session’s voice room and chat, for up to 6 hours. They don’t see your other rooms.
What happens to the chat of a session?
It is deleted together with the session, shortly after the last person has left. Sessions cannot be recorded, so there are no recordings either.
Can I rename “session” to something else?
Yes. In the lobby settings admins set their own term, for example “Squad” and “Start a squad” – one term for all languages or separately for German and English.
Can I start several sessions at once?
You can have one session of your own per lobby, and start at most one new session every 30 seconds. If you start a second one, Coviqo offers to take you to the one you already have.
