How spatial voice works
Click Enter the map and you join the map’s call. Walk with W A S D or the arrow keys, or click where you want to go. Voices are at full volume close by, get quieter with distance and are silent beyond your hearing range. They also come from the left or the right.
Microphone, camera, screen sharing and push-to-talk work as in a voice room. Cameras of people near you appear as small bubbles above their avatars.
Zones, doors and the stage
- Open area
- People near you, quieter with distance
- Private zone
- Everyone inside at full volume; with the door open, people outside hear you by distance
- Door closed / Do not disturb
- Nothing gets in or out
- Stage
- Heard on the whole map, except behind closed doors
- Whisper zone
- Only people in the same zone, and only close by
Walk up to a closed door and Knock. The people inside get a message with Let in and Decline. With Do not disturb nobody can knock.
Virtual office or community lounge
Start from a template: Office (meeting corner, private offices, quiet room, coffee kitchen), Community lounge (stage, lounge, gaming corner, chill zone, kitchen) or Event hall (big stage, backstage, meeting corner, quiet room).
With the permission Edit maps you change everything in the editor: zones, doors in the walls, floors, furniture, the hearing range and portals that lead to another spot or to another map, for example another floor.
Working and hanging out together
- Screen sharing: a bar lists the shares of everyone you can hear. Watch one big or keep walking with it in a corner.
- Objects: a whiteboard or note opens the room’s board or note, a library opens the room’s files, a meeting point starts a meeting with the people in the zone.
- Tables: sit down and hear each other at full volume, while others only hear a murmur.
- Megaphone: with the permission, the whole map hears you for one minute.
- Fun features such as a jukebox, emotes, speech bubbles or snowballs – managers switch each one on or off in the map settings.
How many maps a space can have and how many people fit on one map depends on the plan – see pricing.
Accessible without a mouse
The List view shows the map as text: every zone with its door and the people in it, plus Walk there and Knock. Screen readers announce when you enter a zone and when somebody knocks. With “reduce motion” switched on in your system, animations are left out.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have a private conversation on a map?
Yes. Go into a private zone and close the door, or set Do not disturb. Then nothing gets in or out, and people outside can only knock – or not at all with Do not disturb.
Can I use a map as a virtual office?
Yes. The Office template has a meeting corner, private offices, a quiet room and a coffee kitchen. Objects can open the room’s whiteboard, notes and files or start a meeting.
Can we switch off the playful features?
Yes. People who manage the map switch each fun feature on or off in the map settings, for example the jukebox, snowballs or puddles.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. On touch screens you tap where you want to go. Microphone, camera and screen sharing work as in a voice room.
